The autonomous vehicle (AV) technology has the potential to significantly improve safety and efficiency of the transportation and logistics industry. Full-scale AV testing is limited by time, space, and cost, while simulation-based testing often lacks the necessary accuracy of AV and environmental modeling. In recent years, several initiatives have emerged to test autonomous software and hardware on scaled vehicles. This systematic literature review provides an overview of the literature surrounding small-scale self-driving cars, summarizing the current autonomous platforms deployed and focusing on the software and hardware developments in this field. The studies published in English-language journals or conference papers that present small-scale testing of self-driving cars were included. Web of Science, Scopus, Springer Link, Wiley, ACM Digital Library, and TRID databases were used for the literature search. The systematic literature search found 38 eligible studies. Research gaps in the reviewed papers were identified to provide guidance for future research. Some key takeaway emerging from this manuscript are: (i) there is a need to improve the models and neural network architectures used in autonomous driving systems, as most papers present only preliminary results; (ii) increasing datasets and sharing databases can help in developing more reliable control policies and reducing bias and variance in the training process; (iii) small-scaled vehicles to ensure safety is a major benefit, and incorporating data about unsafe driving behaviors and infrastructure problems can improve the accuracy of predictive models.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div>

Road accidents account for millions of fatal and non-fatal victims worldwide each year, causing losses for victims and their families in many ways. Understanding the causes that differentiate fatal from non-fatal accidents is an essential topic in the area of traffic safety. In this way, this paper proposes a framework to identify the most informative variables for discriminating road accidents as fatal and non-fatal. The proposed framework is comprised of three operational steps: (i) Preprocess the data describing road accidents; (ii) Iteratively classify accident events into fatal or non-fatal and eliminate the less relevant variables using the O1AT technique; and (iii) Qualitatively assess the retained variables. For that matter, data reporting accidents in rural and urban areas of Brazil (BR) and Great Britain (GB) in 2018 were analyzed. After data pretreatment, the \u201comit-one-variable-at-a-time\u201d (O1AT) technique was employed to identify the subset of variables yielding the most accurate classification. Such a method substantially increased the accuracy of event classification into fatal and non-fatal categories, and reduced the number of variables required for analysis. For the Brazilian database, frontal collision and pedestrian run over were highlighted as the most significant variables to describe fatal accidents. As for accidents in Great Britain, variables including the period of the day the accident took place, the number of vehicles involved, and whether the police attended the accident scene were deemed statistically significant in distinguishing fatal from non-fatal accidents.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div>

A tecnologia de ve\u00edculos aut\u00f4nomos (AV) tem o potencial de revolucionar o setor de transporte e log\u00edstica, tornando-o mais eficiente e seguro. No entanto, testar essas tecnologias geralmente \u00e9 limitado por restri\u00e7\u00f5es de tempo, espa\u00e7o e custo. Por isso, nos \u00faltimos anos, v\u00e1rias iniciativas surgiram para testar software e hardware aut\u00f4nomo em ve\u00edculos em pequena escala. A fim de fornecer orienta\u00e7\u00e3o para pesquisas futuras, esta revis\u00e3o sistem\u00e1tica da literatura foi realizada para trazer uma vis\u00e3o geral da literatura sobre carros aut\u00f4nomos de pequena escala, resumindo as atuais plataformas aut\u00f4nomas implantadas e focando nos desenvolvimentos de hardware neste campo. Por meio do uso de bancos de dados como estudos eleg\u00edveis que apresentam testes em pequena escala de carros aut\u00f4nomos foram identificados e revisados. Os resultados indicaram que as publica\u00e7\u00f5es sobre o tema s\u00e3o relativamente novas, sendo que apenas nos \u00faltimos quatro anos houve aumento no n\u00famero de publica\u00e7\u00f5es. Al\u00e9m disso, a maioria dos trabalhos apresentou apenas resultados preliminares, destacando o potencial para novas pesquisas e desenvolvimento no campo. O transporte \u00e9 um dos principais setores respons\u00e1veis pelo desenvolvimento social e econ\u00f4mico de um pa\u00eds. Dessa forma, o sistema de transporte, que possui como finalidade possibilitar, de forma eficiente, o fluxo de pessoas e mercadorias de um lugar para outro, s\u00f3 tende a crescer no Brasil. Esse crescimento, associado com padr\u00f5es de usos do solo e fatores socioecon\u00f4micos de cada regi\u00e3o, proporciona uma demanda por acessibilidade e mobilidade nos diversos modais de transporte, o que exige um gerenciamento constante da infraestrutura e dos sistemas log\u00edsticos. A ascens\u00e3o de ve\u00edculos aut\u00f4nomos como mitigador dos problemas de tr\u00e2nsito e mobilidade leva \u00e0 necessidade de avaliar as mudan\u00e7as que eles podem provocar na infraestrutura vi\u00e1ria. O objetivo deste trabalho \u00e9 relatar o andamento de projeto de pesquisa que busca avaliar os impactos de Ve\u00edculos Aut\u00f4nomos no tr\u00e1fego atrav\u00e9s do desenvolvimento de ve\u00edculos rob\u00f3ticos aut\u00f4nomos em miniatura.
